If Christian dating sites are on the rise, you can only imagine the new series of Jewish-focused dating sites that are out there, and will continue to crop up in the coming years. From the general nature of JewishFriendFinder.com to the more focused tone of JDate.com, the scope of Jewish dating sites is no longer limited. In addition, while lacking the Jewish-focused content of those sites, top scientific matching sites such as EHarmony.com and Match.com also offer a worthwhile alternative…or at least a complement.
If you’re at all familiar with the Friend Finder network of sites, you know that their perspective is pretty much to serve everyone, whatever their relationship intent. Here, though – and this is a byproduct of the members more than anything specific the site does – the focus is much more toward relationships for the rest of your life. Profiles are more detailed, and the sense of commitment is unlike the vast majority of FriendFinder’s network as a whole.
JDate.com shares the commitment focus, but presents a bit more Jewish-oriented profiling than FriendFinder’s site. Targeted questions include whether you keep Kosher or go to Synagogue. In addition, not only are many denominations included, but profiles can be sorted based on this, to make sure you can focus your search to your exact specifications. And profiles here seem to be more detailed and well written than on most other sites. This is a commitment-oriented site with an upwardly mobile community that contributes a great deal, and is complemented by a stellar online magazine.
Match.com has a specific segment for its Jewish users, which is something EHarmony doesn’t provide. This is not to be confused with JewishMatch.com, an unrelated site that has received mixed reviews. Match.com’s affiliation with Dr. Phil has been well received, and the site’s intricate dual-matching system goes into more detail profilewise than either the Friend Finder or JDate sites.
EHarmony.com has a large Jewish contingent on its site, likely by virtue of its commitment focus and a strong marketing effort in recent years to diversify its membership. But there’s not a lot of focused material for the Jewish community here, largely because of the fact that you don’t search the site. You fill out your profile and it sends you matches. So without browsing options, there’s not much need for a targeted segment. The newly launched EHarmony Marriage section does have advice for Jewish couples, but that’s not really the focus here.
